Hey Hafiz!! Hi! So anyway to your latest post. Jesus came into the world so that He will be able to experience how it is to be a human – to see the temptations that we face (he himself did face temptations from Satan or else humans can easily and blindly say that God doesn't know how it is to be A HUMAN and dying on the cross, indeed, the angels could have helped Him but then would the sacrifice for sin be paid for? Jesus' only reason to come to earth was to die – to die on the cross. Indeed, dying on the cross is one of the worst way to die and yes, some Christians do "kiss" the cross. Most of us don’t do that. Cos if we do that, the cross might have most probably become an idol – we are worshipping the cross instead of the Son of Man who died ON the cross.
Salam, Ruth.
Thanks for the comments!
You mentioned that Jesus “came into the world so that He will be able to experience how it is to be a human” – to learn how easily we give in to temptations. When I read this, the first thing that struck me was the question: Is God All Knowing?
In Psalms 139, Verse 1 – 4, it says:
Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.
This proves that God is All Knowing. Therefore, if God is All Knowing, He knows what it is like to be tempted and hence, does not need to become man.
If the people accuse God of not knowing what it is like to be human, then this person has disbelieved in God. He has disbelieved in the Supreme Divinity of God. He has failed to believe in the attributes of God and therefore, does not have faith.
The second point you brought up is the question of Original Sin. Is the sin committed by Adam passed down to us? Are we born sinful? Why should God expire the original sin through the atonement of Jesus Christ? Is God fair for doing this? If God is Loving, Merciful and Forgiving, why can’t He just forgive Adam? Perhaps I will raise this issues again in future posts.
The third point you brought up is the status of Jesus Christ. Is he the Son of God or the Son of Man? The Islamic view is neither.
Jesus Christ is not the Son of Man because he did not have a father. He only had a mother, Mary:
"She (Mary) said: ‘O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me.' He (God) said: ‘So (it will be) for God creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only: ‘Be!'- and it is" (Qur'an 3:47)
Jesus Christ was not the Son of God because God is Free of All Needs and All Sufficient. He does not need to eat, drink or sleep etc. Because if He needs this things, then it defeats His nature or attributes. Therefore, God does not need a son:
"Such was Jesus, the son of Mary; it is a statement of truth, about which they vainly dispute. It is not befitting to the majesty of God, that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! When He determines a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be' and it is" (Quran 19:34-35).
God is Only One. He is Supreme, free of human limitations, needs and wants. He has no partners in His Divinity. He is the Creator of everything and is completely separate from His creation.
"People of the Book (Jews and Christians)! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, and attribute to God nothing except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of God, and His command that He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in God and in His Messengers, and do not say: ‘God is a Trinity.' Give up this assertion; it would be better for you. God is indeed just One God. Far be it from His glory that He should have a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth. God is sufficient for a guardian" (Qur 'an 4:171)
Hope this helps. Keep in touch!
Peace.
